Citi Field- Pizza Cupcakes

Citi Field before the Phillies shut them out 6-0

I’m a Yankee fan at heart, but financially, I’m a Mets fan. Baseball is my favorite sport. I told myself as long as I could buy season tickets to the Yankees one day, I’d be happy. Unfortunately, until then, to enjoy a yankee game, I have to spend over $75 just for somewhat good tickets, not counting driving there, parking, food, and any other expenses. Mets, tickets, however, are dirt cheap. And this is the perfect time, too because they’re better than they usually are this year. For $15, I got a ticket behind home plate, a couple levels up. For the tickets driving, parking, and food, the whole thing cost me $80, or the price of one good ticket to a Yankee game.

Anyways, this year, the MLB has been trying to introduce new and… weird (?) foods (hey that’s what this blog is about) to their ball parks. Citi field had a few options; some kind of dumplings, a churro ice cream sandwich, and the one that appealed to me the most. The Pizza Cupcake. Under here you can see my immediate review of the pizza cupcake from my seat in Citi Field.

Brother Brunos Pizza, Deli & Bagels – Wayne, New Jersey

Brother Bruno’s off the Hamburg Turnpike in Wayne New Jersey

This week I took a trip to Wayne, New Jersey, to try a pizza topped entirely with dessert food. I had heard of this place for a few year, and even lived closer to it when I was in high school, but never had the chance to visit it until this past weekend. Brother Bruno’s is about 45 minutes away from Seton Hall University, for anyone with a sweet tooth.

Dessert pizza menu

The pizzas come in three sizes, Large with four different topping choices, medium with two choices, and small with one choice. If I had the time, I would’ve tried them all, but I was only there with a friend and we settled on a medium with two choices.

shaky cam because I was trying to not look like an Instagram foodie and everyone was looking.

I split a Dirt Cake dessert with a Peanut butter brownie. The dirt cake had gummy worms and Oreo with Nutella on the bottom and powdered sugar. The Peanut butter brownie had exactly what you think. The texture was incredibly odd for both the halves. The pizza dough is kind of rough and it’s not right for something desserty. The gummy worms melted a little and a mix of brownie texture with the rough doughy pizza crust was too odd for my liking. I heard recommendations for something with cinnamon or with cheesecake, as it is served cool and is different, so maybe this is worth a retry.

Cookie Munchers- Glassboro, NJ

Cookie Munchers in Glassboro

This week’s food stop came to me somewhat out of left field. During my spring break, I was working almost every day covering other students who used the week to go to Miami or Malibu. I had one free day for spring break, so I used it to visit my old friend at Rowan University. After catching up for some time, we got a hankering for a midnight snack.

This was where my friend suggested Cookie Munchers. “Im not even kidding, they have cookies the size of your head,” that was enough for me to be sold.

Cookie Munchers is an hour and a half away from Seton Hall’s campus, so I wouldn’t recommend going out to try these cookies unless you make a day out of it in beautiful Glassboro.

S’mores, sugar, snickerdoodle, and red velvet cookies.

Around 1 am, a delivery driver knocked on my friends door and held out a pizza box when I got to the door. “I ordered cookies, not pizza,” I thought to myself. When I opened the box, I was so surprised at the size of these cookies. “The size of your head,” was absolutely correct. Still warm from the oven, I wanted to rip my cookie apart and dunk it in some milk and finish it in under a minute, until it dawned on me that this was perfect for this blog.

fresh off a bad haircut, my face was dwarfed by this cookie.

Like I said this cookie was still warm from the oven. I ordered the S’mores cookie and it was crazy delicious. With slightly burnt (the best way to have them) marshmallows, chocolate chips under, and a batter that actually tasted like graham crackers, this cookie was perfect for my midnight snack hankering. I don’t frequently visit my friend at Rowan, but Cookie Munchers might have given me an extra reason to stop down there more often.
